The Milo Cup - Australian 16 and under Women's Cricket Championship was first introduced in 1996/7 as a school based competition in conjunction with School Sport Australia (SSA).
The first championship was played in Ballarat, Victoria. Six teams competed with NSW defeating Victoria in the final.
In 2000/1, the championship was renamed the Betty Butcher Shield. It was so named to recognise the late Betty Butcher, a committed sports administrator who served many years in various roles at state (Victorian Women's Cricket Association), national (Australian Women's Cricket Council) and international (International Women's Cricket Council) level. The renaming of the trophy for the winners of this championship was just reward for her contribution to women's cricket and dedication to helping young people achieve.
In 2010/11 the championship was changed from U17s to U18s
Adelaide, 5-11 January 2011
