Match reports: Round 1 8th Dec

NSW v ACT: NSW won the toss and batted first, racking up a massive 7/306 off their 50 overs. Leah Poulton top scored with 126 off 113 balls (10 x 4, 1 x 6). Poulton's opening partner, captain Kate Blackwell, scored 48 off 68 (6 x 4) in an opening stand of 113. The 2nd wicket fell at 211 after Sally Curry had made 34 off 49 (1 x 4, 1 x 6). Sarah Aley also chipped in with 30 off 23 (5 x 4). Bec McRae took 2/60 off 7 while Sarah-Jane Moore, Meredith Clisby and Camina Cruwys took 1 each.

In reply, ACT could only manage 68 off 47.3 overs to lose by 238 runs. Moore was the only batter to top 6 with 19 off 131 (1 x 4).Poulton and Aley both backed up to take 2/8 while Nicole Goodwin, Charlotte Anneveld, Bronwyn Daws and Kate Blackwell each took 1 wicket.

Queensland v NT/Tasmania: Queensland won the toss and batted first, making 9/205 off their 50 overs. Captain Jodie Purves top scored with 62 off 86 (3 x 4). Five other batters each double figures but none topped 20. SA Scorpion, Shelley Nitschke, took 3/17 off 7 while Suzanna Howe took 3/27 off 7. Brooke Oliver and Angela Burdon took one apiece.

NT/Tasmania batted out their overs to finish at 7/151, Nitschke, batting at 5, top scored with an unbeaten 38 off 76 (1 x 4) while Kristen Beams and Laurinda Telha both chipped in with 30 off 55 and 51 respectively. Fire squad member Laura Bates took 2/20 off 10 while Lacey Hinze took 2/41 off 10. Kelly Klibbe was the only other wicket-taker with 1/33 off 10.

Today's matches see ACT up against Queensland while the Vics take on NT/Tasmania. NSW have the bye.

Dec 9 - Rd 2 matches

After round 2, Queensland sits on top of the ladder on 10 points after picking up another bonus point when defeating ACT, Victoria picked up two bonus points from its first match (against the combined NT/Tasmania team). NSW had the bye.

QLD v ACT: - Queensland won the toss and batted first, scoring 8/220 off their 50 overs. Although #10 Lacey Hinze top scored with an unbeaten 53 off 36 (10 x 4) , most of the Queensland batters got a start. Vice captain Jodie Purves was next best with 47 off 60 (3 x 4) while Sarah Harris (28* off 57), Kelly Klibbe (26 off 40) and Kasee Marxsen (25 off 21) all chipped in.

The wickets were shared with Bec McRae (2/37 off 5), Sarah-Jane Moore (2/42 off 10) and Jane Livesey (2/45 off 8) the most successful. Camina Cruwys and Meredith Clisby each took one.

In reply, ACT batted out their 50 overs to reach 8/87 to lose by 133 runs. Moore top scored with 24 off 87 (3 x 4), while Alison Willard (16 off 48) and Cruwys (15 off 82) were the only other batters to reach double figures.

Jessica Rowlands took 2/11 off 5 while Laura Bates picked up 2/23 off 10. Angela Murnane, Klibbe and Hinze took one each.

NT/Tasmania v Victoria: - NT/Tasmania won the toss and batted first, but were dismissed for 74 after 36 overs. No batter topped 20 with captain Shelley Nitschke the best with 17 off 40. Candace Hulett was the pick of the bowlers with 3/12 off 8 and was well supported by Julie Hunter (2/4 off 7) and Kathryn Buick (2/16 off 5). Danielle Bromley and Karen Winterton took the other wickets.

Victoria raced to the required target in only 14.1 overs for the loss of only one wicket to easily secure the 2 bonus points on offer. Captain Sarah Edwards was unbeaten on 30 off 53 (5 x 4) while Ingrid Noack was also unbeaten on 20 off 20 (4 x 4). Suzanna Howe (1/27 off 4) picked up the only wicket to fall.

Today's matches see NSW up against Queensland while the Vics take on the ACT. NT/Tasmania have the bye.

Dec 10 Rd 3 matches 

After round 3, Victoria and NSW sit on top of the ladder on 12 points after both picking up 2 bonus point in their respective defeats of the ACT and previously undefeated Queensland. Tasmania/NT had the bye.

QLD v NSW:

Queensland won the toss and batted first but were dismissed in the 40th over for 97. Only 2 batters reached double figures - Kasee Marxsen 30 off 36 (5 x 4) and Sarah Harris 16 off 42 (3 x 4). Nicole Goodwin (3/18 off 8) and Sharon Millanta (3/23 off 8) were the pick of the bowlers. Leah Poulton (2/16 off 7), Charlotte Anneveld (1/15) and Sarah Aley (1/19) provided able support.

NSW only need 22,5 overs to reach 0/98 as they easily secured the 2 bonus points - both Kate Blackwell and Poulton finished unbeaten on 42 off 74 and 63 balls respectively.

ACT Victoria:

ACT won the toss and batted first , dismissed for 104 in the 50th over. Alison Willard top scored with 29 off 64 (6 x 4) while Amy Jason-Jones (24 off 61, 5 x 4) and Camina Cruwys (14 off 35, 2 x 4) were the only other batters to reach double figures.

Shannon Young led the bowlers with 3/12 off 10 while Julie Hunter picked up 2/18 off 9.5. Candace Hulett, Danielle Bromley and Karen Winterton each picked up 1 wicket.

Victoria need only 17.1 overs to reach 1/108 - Young backing up with an unbeaten 44 off 44 (6 x 4) and captain Sarah Edwards 32 off 53 (4 x 4, 1 x 6). Kris Woods picked up the only wicket to fall.

Tomorrow's matches see NSW up against the Tasmania/NT combination while Queensland take on the Vics. ACT have the bye. If results go as expected this will set up a "final" between NSW and Victoria on Friday while the ACT and Tasmania/NT will be fighting to avoid the wooden spoon.

CRICKET AUSTRALIA CUP - Day Four

After round 4, NSW and Victoria remain undefeated with NSW in top position by virtue of a better net run rate. NSW defeated Tasmania/NT to pick up a bonus point while Victoria did the same to Queensland. ACT had the bye.

VIC v QLD

Queensland won the toss and fielded first, dismissing Victoria in the 49th over for 159. Lyndall Dailey topscored with 36 off 48 (7 x 4) and was well supported by captain Sarah Edwards 28 off 52, 2 x 4), Karen Winterton (25 off 60, 2 x 4) and Ingrid Noack (21 off 37, 4 x 4). Lacey Hinze took 4/24 off 7 while Laura Bates, Kate Macgibbon and Jessica Rowlands took 2 each. 

Queensland could only manage 97 in reply as they were dismissed in the 42nd over. Bates and Angela Murnane both scoring 27 off 95 and 65 respectively. Julie Hunter took 4/7 off 8 with Sharon Wright (2/11 off 5) and Shannon Young 2/12 (7.5) also chipping in.

NSW v Tasmania/NT

NSW won the toss and batted first, reaching 9/196. In a re-jigged batting order, Amanda Owens and Kate Blackwell both top scored with 36 off 60 and 43 respectively while Sally Curry (22) and Sarah Aley (21) also passed 20. Captain Shelley Nitschke (3/17 off 10) and Suzanna Howe (3/30 off 6) were the most successful bowlers while Elizabeth Fitzgerald picked up 2/47 off 10.

Tasmania/NT were then dismissed for 135 in the 47th over. Kristen Beams topscoring with 30 off 51 (6 x 4) while Brooke Oliver was the only other batter to reach double figures (17 off 51, 3 x 4). Sharon Millanta picked up the first 5 wicket haul of the tournament with 5/31 off 10, Nicole Goodwin took 2/16 off 4.3 while Charlotte Anneveld and Leah Poulton each took one.

As expected today's matches, weather permitting, sets up a "final" between NSW and Victoria while the ACT and Tasmania/NT will be fighting to avoid the wooden spoon.
