Mysore - December 13th - ODI
2 - Australia 7/172 Defeated India 7/
171
After winning the toss and elected to field we captured
our first wicket in the second over without any score
on the board. Clea Smith had Sharma caught by Melanie
Jones at mid on.
Cathryn Fitzpatrick again took control and after finishing her first spell had the figures of 5 overs of 0/1.
That is where the good times finished for a while, with the Indians putting on a 101 run partnership. This was broken when Chopra was out for 43. Caught by Rolton, from the bowling of Shelley Nitschke. (first wicket for Australia).
Lisa Sthalekar picked up the next two wickets (Jain
and Raj). Two run outs followed with good work from
Julie Hayes and Leonie Coleman. The last wicket saw
Fitzpatrick bowl Raphel.
Sthalekar was the leading wicket taker with 2/36, Fitzpatrick finished with 1/20 Smith 1/21 and Nitschke 1/24.
We started well with a quick fire 42 opening partnership before Lisa Keightley (10) was the first of three run outs. Lisa was quickly followed by Belinda Clark (31)
to leave us at 2/47.
Rolton was again partnered with Sthalekar (30) and compiled 61 run partnership to head the ship in the right direction.
Rolton (62 no) then had a succession of partners before fellow South Australian, Nitschke (1)
and Rolton got us across the line with 4 balls remaining. Both Fitzpatrick and Hayes had small but important contributions
with the bat.
We move to Mumbai for the next international on Thursday.
Mysore - December 11th - ODI 1 vs. India
Australia 6/195 defeated India 9/181
India sent Australia in on a wicket which was soft on top, however hard underneath.
Lisa Keightley and Belinda Clark opened the batting. During the 11th over Clark was given out LBW for 20 with the score on 30. Keightley and Karen Rolton put together a partnership of 29. Keightley was also out LBW for 13. Lisa Sthalekar and Rolton batted very well for an 81 run partnership at 156, Sthalekar was the next to fall for 34.
A mini collapse of three further wickets, including
Rolton for 82, for the addition of only 27 runs. Cathryn
Fitzpatrick and Julie Hayes added a quick 16 runs in
2 overs. 195 could have been 230.
Fitzpatrick opened the bowling with 3 maidens in her
first 4 overs mounting immediate pressure; however
the first wicket fell on 32 with a great direct hit
from Clark to run out Jain. Chopra came in to bat with
Sharma and proceeded to form a solid partnership of
44 before being bowled by Hayes for 18. This brought
Raj into bat who went on to score 60 not out.
Sharma made a very good 58 before being dismissed by Rolton bowled. Raj and Kala added 26 runs before some good fielding from Clark (catch and 2nd run out) and Keightley (catch) put the breaks on and allowed some breathing space.
Good bowling from Fitzpatrick 1/32, Hayes 2/35 enabled the pressure to apply at different times. Sthalekar 2/31 and Shelley Nitschke (player her first game for Australia) bowled well 0/19 off 6 overs.
A good start by the Australians and plenty of room for improvement
Karen Rolton was named player of the match ahead of Raj and Fitzpatrick.
