- The Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars have defeated India by 8 wickets with 12.2 overs to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the 5 match series.
India won the toss and batted first, scoring 6/183. Several batters got starts – Naik 39 (off 67), Chopra 33 (75), Dhar 35* (57) - but no-one really dominated until Goswami rattled up 46 off 45.
Chopra and Naik added 59 off 17.5 overs for the 2nd wicket while Dhar and Goswami added 61 for the 6th wicket in 11.3 overs after a mini-collapse of 3/5. 2/83 became 5/88 in the space of 4.2 overs when Raj (8 off 25) was caught by ‘keeper Leonie Coleman off Ellyse Perry, Perry bowled Chopra and then Kamini was bowled by Emma Sampson for a duck.
Sampson finished with 2/34 off 10 after picking up Goswami caught at long by Kirsten Pike. Perry took 2/37 off 10 while Delissa Kimmince and Pike took a wicket each.
The Southern Stars made light work of the chase after a steady start – Alex Blackwell (75 off 101) and Lisa Sthalekar (73* off 69) added 116 for the 2nd wicket off 29.3 overs after Leah Poulton (17 off 39) fell in the 14th over when the score was on 41. Captain Karen Rolton (16* off 18) added an unbeaten 29 with Sthalekar to see the side to victory in the 38th over.
Dhar (1/17 off 8) and Sultana (1/45 off 8) were the only wicket-takers.
