NSWIS Blues ready to set Queensland Fire alight!
Once again, the weather forecast is likely to keep temperatures high for this weekend's NSWIS Blues versus Queensland Fire Women's National Cricket League Final Series at Bankstown Memorial Oval.
Looking for a fifth successive title, NSWIS Blues Captain Belinda Clark is keen to see her team remain undefeated in WNCL Final Series games. "Last year we defeated Western Fury in a close final at the SCG and this year Queensland Fire will be a good opponent as this is their first time in the WNCL Finals and they have nothing to lose. In fact the only game we lost during the entire season was against the Fire".
Twenty - three year old Shannon Cunneen who plays with the Gordon Club will be donning the NSWIS Blues gear for the first time and is delighted to be joining such a talented lineup. Clark said "It is unusual to play a debutante in a Final Series but Shannon's form has been outstanding. Our side has performed consistently this season and Shannon has performed well with the bat throughout the season (with Club team Gordon) and deserves a chance to show her wares at the next level."
The WNCL Final Series is a best of three, one day match series (50 overs) and will be played Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and (if required) Sunday 28th January 2001. Mercantile Mutual and Pura Cup venue Bankstown Memorial Oval are the proud hosts of the WNCL 2000-2001 Final Series. The will include on-field entertainment during the lunchtime break, with local school girls participating in cricket activities and with promotional giveaways for the public.
Match commences 10am, gates open at 9am. Admission to the game is free.
This WNCL Final Series is part of the NSW Centenary of Federation Celebrations.
