Women's International Matches - Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars v New Zealand White Ferns
The annual Rose Bowl series between Australian and New Zealand has commenced with three (3) matches already completed in NZ and the remaining three (3) to be played in Australia.

Australia won the 6th and final match with 4 wickets and 8 balls to spare.
Captain Belinda Clark was the first wicket to fall, lbw to McNeill for 26 off 44 (4 x 4). Shannon Cunneen and Karen Rolton then put on 63 off 96 before Rolton was caught by Aimee Mason at square leg off Louise Milliken for 31 off 48 (1 x 4). Rolton finished with 394 runs for the series - a record for a Rose Bowl series and 3rd best over all by an Australian in any series. Cunneen followed not long after in the 33rd over for a personal best at this level of 39 off 98 (2 x 4, 1 x 6), caught by Haidee Tiffen off Rebecca Steele. Kris Britt was the next to go for 6, lofting a ball to Mason on the drive off Milliken and Sthalekar (4) also fell cheaply run out coming back for a second by Watson. Melanie Jones was dismissed for second consecutive 50 of the series when she was out for 54 off 55 (3 x 4), caught by Sara Burke off Helen Watson, with the scores level. Alex Blackwell remained not out on 22.
Australia finished on 6/197 off 48.4 in response to New Zealand's 6/196.
Cathryn Fitzpatrick was the other not out batter on 1 off 2. Five New Zealand bowlers took a wicket each - Rebecca Steele 10-1-1-24,Louise Milliken 6-0-1-29 (2w, 3nb), Beth McNeill 10-1-1-35 (4w), Burke 9-1-1-35 and Watson 6.4-0-1-44 (1w). Mason was the other bowler used - 7-0-0-27 (1w).
Karen Rolton was named Player of the Series.
After winning the toss and batting first, New Zealand made 6/196 off their 50 overs. The not out batters were Haidee Tiffen on 60 off 80 (2 x4) and Helen Watson (23 off 26) who combined for an unbeaten 51 off 48. Tiffen finished the series with 195 runs, 53 ahead of next best, allrounder Aimee Mason. IN fact, Tiffen was the only Kiwi batter to pass 50 (twice). Rebecca Rolls was the first wicket to fall on the 3rd ball of the innings with the score still on 0. Attempting to pull a short delivery from Cathryn Fitzpatrick, she only succeeded in being well caught by a diving Lisa Sthalekar at forward square leg.
Emily Drumm was next to go with the score at 22 in the 6th over when she was caught by 'keeper Leonie Coleman for 13 off 17 (1 x 4), attempting to cut Fitzpatrick.
A partnership of 37 between Maria Fahey and captain Maia Lewis was ended when Lewis was out for 19 off 46 (2 x 4), caught and bowled by Sthalekar in the 21st over. Fahey and Tiffen then combined for 41 before Fahey was out stumped by Coleman off Kris Britt for 41 off 80 (4 x 4) in the 31st over.
The aggressive Mason was caught on the midwicket boundary by Julie Hayes off Karen Rolton for 19 off 27 (1 x 4) in the 38th over while Beth McNeill followed in the 42nd over when she a simple return catch to Rolton for 4 off 20.
The wickettakers were Fitzpatrick with 10-2-2-37 (1w), Rolton 7-0-2-36 (1w), Britt 3-0-1-19 and Sthalekar 10-0-1-23 (2w). Hayes 10-0-0-32 and Emma Twining 10-1-0-43 were the other bowlers used. Fitzpatrick finished the series with 15 wickets (a record for an Australian in a Rose Bowl competition) while Sthalekar took 9 and Hayes 8.
5 - Australian Southern Stars v New Zealand White Ferns Rose Bowl 2004 - Match 5 Feb 25th @ Albert Ground, Melbourne
After a good start New Zealand stumbled in their quest to win their second
match of the series as Australia held their composure and won by 40 runs. Australia now leads the series 4-1.From 0/58 at the 1st drinks break New Zealand lost three wickets in 5 overs.
The first to go was Rebecca Rolls, in the 21st over, caught at deep square leg by Kris Britt (for the second game in a row) off Julie Hayes for 42 off 55 (5 x 4) when the score was 64. Her fellow opener Maria Fahey was caught at backward point by Lisa Keightley off Lisa Sthalekar for 23 off 79 (2 x 4)in the 24th over - 2/73. Then, next over, captain Maia Lewis was caught by Britt at square leg off Hayes for 1 off 2 when the score was 74.With the required run rate steadily climbing above a run a ball from the
22nd over, Haidee Tiffen and Nicola Browne then combined for 52 off 81 before Browne was out for 24 off 47 (3 x 4) in the 38th over, skying a catch to Cathryn Fitzpatrick at midwicket off Sthalekar, the ball after surviving a stumping chance.With New Zealand's 2 in-form bats Tiffen and Aimee Mason needing more than
10 an over, they launched an all out attack scoring 9 runs off Sthalekar's 10th over, 17 off Clea Smith's 8th over, 8 off Hayes' 7th over, and 9 off Karen Rolton's 6th over . However Hayes struck in the 44th to remove Mason bowled for 30 off 20 (6 x 4) after a whirlwind partnership of 46 off 30.With the required run rate still above 10 an over, Fitzpatrick returned and
had Tiffen out caught at mid off by Keightley for 44 off 61 (5 x 4) extinguishing even the slightest chance New Zealand had of causing another upset at 6/146 in the 45th over. Steele with the score on 198 in the 44th over. Lisa Keightley was run out for 1 off 4 by Maria Fahey with the score at 204 in the 46th over. The not out batters were Karen Rolton on 95 off 109 (5 x 4,1 x 6) and Alex Blackwell on 15 off 14 (2 x 4).With her 3rd 50 of the series (20th in her career), Rolton has now passed

Aimee Mason also had the respectable figures of 7-0-1-37 but Beth McNeil the only other wickettaker suffered at the end with figures of 10-1-1-52 (3w). The other bowlers used were Louise Milliken 6-0-0-35 (4w), Amanda Green 6-1-0-27 (1w), Helen Watson 9-0-0-43 (1w) and Nicola Browne 2-0-0-14.

Australia's hope of series whitewash were wiped away on Saturday when New
Zealand won by 20 runs at Bankstown Oval.New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat. They batted out their 50 overs
but only made what should have been a reachable 6/151. Haidee Tiffen provided the backbone of the innings with an unbeaten 52 off 89 (4 x 4). She shared a 54 run partnership for the 5th wicket Aimee Mason (33 off 48, 1 x 4). Emily Drumm (25 off 44) was the only other batter to pass 20. Beth McNeill remained not out on 9 off 9.The six wickets to fall were:

Australia have taken a 3-0 lead in the series after beating New Zealand by 83 runs yesterday.
New Zealand won the toss and sent Australia in and Australia made 3/241 - their 3rd highest score v New Zealand. Captain Belinda Clark led the way with 120 off 148 (13 x 4) while Karen Rolton, for the 3rd time in the series, remained unbeaten on 80 off 100 (11 x 4). This pair put on an Australian record of 194 for the second wicket.

In reply, New Zealand managed 8/158 off their 50 overs. The not out batters were Louise Milliken (14 off 29, 1 x 4) and Sarah Burke (8 off 8, 1 x 4).

after New Zealand won the toss and batted first. Australia made one change to the side that won the first came with Clea Smith coming into the side for Leonie Coleman. Shannon Cunneen took over the gloves from Coleman.The Kiwis could only manage 8/152 off their 50 overs. Captain Maia Lewis
topscored with 30 off 70 (4 x 4) while Emily Drumm (26 off 39, 4 x 4), Maria Fahey (24 off 76, 4 x 4) and Aimee Mason (21 off 40, 2 x 4) all chipped in.Australia reached the required total in the 29th over for the loss of only
two 2 wickets - vice-captain Karen Rolton continued her good form with an unbeaten 60 off 108 (6 x 4) while Mel Jones was unbeaten on 40 off 46 (4 x 4, 1 x 6).Nic Browne (1/13 off 4) and Louise Milliken (1/26 off 7) were the only

Australia have won the first match by 78 runs after they won the toss and batted first making 4/225. In reply, New Zealand were all out for 147 in the 46th over. The not out batter was Milliken (5 off 18).
