Welcome to the 2001 Ashes Tour page...on this site we will be posting all the news and results straight from the team as they take on the English and Irish teams on their tour.

16th July - Australia have completed their tour of Ireland by winning both one day games on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
On Saturday, Ireland won the toss and again batted first. They survived their 50 but only managed 7/119. Cathryn Fitzpatrick dominated with 5/14 - her best bowling in one dayers and her 2nd career five wicket haul - making her Australia's leading wickettaker in ODIs with 81. Julie Hayes took the other two wickets to also record her best bowling of 2/14.
In reply, Australia scored the runs in the 28th over with Lisa Keightley and first time captain Karen Rolton both making 51no (although Rolton only faced 34 balls!). Michelle Goszko was the only wicket to fall for 17.
On Sunday, Australia won the toss and batted. Belinda Clark and Sally Cooper opened the innings and put on a record stand v Ireland with 157. Clark was dismissed for 80 while Cooper top scored with 85 (her best).
Ireland struggled with the bat to be all out in the 23rd over for 46, their lowest score against Australia. Therese McGregor took 4/8 (a PB) while Fitzpatrick took 3 and Charmaine Mason 1.
This was also Charmaine Mason's last game for Australia. She played 46 ODIs, taking 83 wickets (2nd highest for Australia) @ 13.86 and scoring 66 runs @ 6.00. She currently holds the record for the best bowling by an Australian in ODIs with 5/9 for England at NeWomen's Cricketstle. She also played 5 tests, taking 13 wickets @ 26.08.
The Aussies completed their tour of England and Ireland with a perfect record of 11 wins from 11 matches.
They return home this week to begin pre-season work for their respective National League sides.
13th July - On a day of variable weather (showers, cold, sunny, showers, cold, sunny...), Australia have defeated Ireland in the 1st match of their series at Leinster CC.
Ireland won the toss and batted, being dismissed for 132 in the 50th over. Therese McGregor continued her great one day form from England, picking up 3/21 while Julie Hayes, Charmaine Mason and Lisa Sthalekar picked up two wickets apiece. Australia's fielding reflected the weather although Ireland appear to have improved since the World Cup. Beggs (45) and O'Leary (42) were the only bats to make double figures.
In reply, Australia made 5/119 off 36 overs before the conditions prevented further play. Michelle Goszko top scored with 36 not out while Lisa Keightley (28), Belinda Clark (16) and Hayes (15no) also chipped in.
McDonald, Young and Grearley took one wikcet each with the other wickets falling to run outs.
The 2nd match takes place Saturday night.

9th July - As expected, Australia have wrapped up the test series 2-0 after winning the 2nd Test by 9 wickets. Australia won the toss and asked England to bat.
As in the 1st Test, Cathryn Fitzpatrick dominated taking another 5 wicket haul. Therese McGregor took two wickets as England were all out for 144 in the 81st over. By the end of day 1, Australia had reached 1/68.
Day two belonged to Karen Rolton as she surpassed the previous highest score in test cricket to reach 209no - she faced 313 balls and hit 25 4s and 1 6. She also combined with Louise Broadfoot (71) to set a new 4th wicket record partnership of 253. Lisa Keightley also contributed 40.
Australia declared at 4/383, leaving England 10 overs to face which the did to reach 0/9.
Day three saw the end of the test and the series as Australia dismissed England for 245 - Claire Taylor, England's leading bat, top scored with 137 with the next best being 30 from Laura Harper.
Fitzpatrick took another 4 wickets to finished with 9/112 for the match and 17 wickets for the series. Charmaine Mason also took 4 wickets. Australia required only 6 runs for victory which they duly scored for the loss of only 1 wicket.
Rolton was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series. IWCC President Christine Brierley presented her with the Peden Archdale Medal. Mason also announced her retirement from international cricket.
Australia's tour concludes as they to Ireland for a 3 match ODI series.
