The competition will start in mid October and end in January around other representative commitments and include six rounds for each team involving a weekend of 1 x one day matches (50 overs). The top two teams at the end of the home and away rounds plays off in the final for the title.  NSW has won the title 14 times, with Victoria the only other team to win the title (twice).

The WNCL Twenty20 competition will also be played in conjunction with the one day competition. Each round will consist of a Twenty20 double header. Some matches will also be played as double-header clashes with the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. As per the WNCL competition, the top two teams will play off in the final. Last season, Victoria again defeated NSW to be the only team to win a WT20 title with three titles.
